Some events celebrate a moment. Others become part of history.
As event professionals, we’re fortunate to help create experiences that people remember. Every so often, however, we have the opportunity to support an event that represents something much larger than a single day—one that honors our nation’s history while becoming part of it.
On July 4, as America marked its 250th anniversary, Event Strategies, Inc. (ESI) was proud to support the United States Navy and Freedom 250 in delivering the International Maritime Review in New York Harbor.
The scale of the event was extraordinary. More than 130 invited navies and coast guards gathered alongside an impressive fleet of tall ships, historic wartime vessels, and modern military assets. Overhead, a 45-minute air demonstration showcased remarkable aviation capability, precision, and international partnership before Vice President JD Vance delivered the official review.
The ceremony took place aboard the USS Kearsarge, a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship positioned in the heart of New York Harbor. Surrounded by ships representing nations from around the world, the event served as a powerful reminder of the United States’ enduring maritime heritage and the importance of international cooperation.
For attendees, the experience was seamless.
Behind the scenes, however, an event of this magnitude demands months of planning and an unwavering commitment to execution.
Producing an international military event introduces a level of complexity unlike nearly any other live production. Every timeline must account for moving vessels, military operations, aviation schedules, security protocols, weather conditions, and countless interagency stakeholders. Communication must remain constant, contingency plans must be built into every phase of the operation, and every team must be prepared to adapt in real time.
There is little room for improvisation when coordinating an event viewed by audiences around the world. Success depends on preparation long before the first ship enters the harbor.
These are the moments where detailed planning, experienced production teams, and trusted partnerships matter most. While guests witness a polished ceremony, countless hours of logistical coordination, technical planning, and operational execution make that experience possible.
